About John Jacob
The decision to run for Congress has been something I've planned for many years. Timing is essential and I can tell you that 2006 is the right time.
I was the son of a sheep rancher, reared in Lehi. Our lambing ground was on the west side of Utah lake, while the summers were spent grazing our sheep in the Wasatch mountains. I have wonderful memories of fishing with my father, but often longed to get back into town.
I graduated from Lehi High School, served a mission in Oklahoma and then enrolled at Brigham Young University. But, education was not the only thing on my mind. I found my love, Diane Kimball of Menlo Park, California and we were married. We have reared four remarkable children Alisha, Elizabeth, Nathanial, and Gretchen. Nathan and I were hopelessly outnumbered before three great sons-in-law came into our family. We have one granddaughter and another expected. The first commitment is always family, so waiting for my children to safely grow into self-assured adults is the reason Diane and I waited until now to run for congress.
While at B.Y.U., I joined with Bill Brown and sold real estate. Jimmy Carter's disastrous economy with double-digit interest rates ended up putting me out of work. Then the country did a most remarkable thing in electing Ronald Reagan. He inspired me when he said, "A recession is when your neighbor is out of work. A depression is when you are out of work. And a recovery is when Jimmy Carter is out of work." My recovery was when President Reagan fired the striking Air Traffic Controllers and I became one. I applied with the Federal Aviation Administration, went to school in Oklahoma, and was sent to Cut Bank, Montana and Littleton, Colorado with the FAA. While a traffic controller I was elected to be our union facilities representative, where I was able to work with management not against them.
After 13 years with the FAA, the opportunity came to return to Utah. I was able to purchase property in the area now known as Eagle Mountain. Currently, I own and operate the John D. Jacob Companies. We specialize in water and property development. I am also a principle owner and director of the Makau Corporation. Makau is a blended solution e-learning company, whose clients include Dell, Novell, IBM and Helius. I also own a large portion of Triwood Inc, a prefabricated molding company. Diane and I have both served on the Eagle Mountain, City Council and have been active in the Republican Party.
I am running for Congress because I believe there is more that can be done for the third district and America. My campaign theme is "Moving Ahead." In the coming weeks I look forward to rolling out my message for "Moving Ahead" in Utah.
